Now what? Don't panic. Please make sure you and others are safe. In New York State you are required to call 911 if there is bodily injury or over $1000 in damage.

Once the scene is stabilized, call AAA or a tow truck and have your vehicle towed to Cortese Collision Shop at 2400 West Henrietta Road.  Your insurance company may recommend someone, but you can go to any registered and licensed auto body shop. We will work with your insurance the same as the preferred shop would, to get your car in good working order.

What do I do first after my accident?
  1. Make sure everyone is safe. Move to a safer location
  2. Call the police. File a report.
  3. Document the scene. Take photos
  4. Exchange info with the other driver.
  5. Call Cortese Collision Center at 585-427-2121. You have the right to choose any collision center. Let us help you get your car back to normal!

  • Damage to your vehicle (all sides)

  • Overall accident scene from several angles
  • Position of the vehicles 
  • Road/Intersection
  • Traffic signs, signals and lane markings

  • Other Driver's Full Name, Phone Number, Address, Driver's License #, License Plate #, Vehicle Year Make and Model, Vehicle Owner (if different)
  • Insurance information - Company, Policy #, Name of Insured, Insurance Phone #
  • Accident Details including Date. Time, Exact Location, Direction of Travel, Weather Conditions. 
Other Handy information?
Witness Names and Phone Numbers, Police Information and it's best to jot down a rough description of what happened as your memory could fade in time. Much of the information will also be on your report if an officer responds to the scene of your collision.

Do I have to call the police if I get in an accident in New York?
Yes, if there is a bodily injury or damage greater than $1000.

Do I have to get my car repaired at the shop my insurance company recommends?
No, you have the right to get your vehicle repaired at the shop of your choosing as long as it is legally licensed and registered as a body shop. 

What if the repair costs more than my insurance will allow?
We generally work this out with the insurance company before any work is done. We will not do any work not approved by your insurance or you. 

What if my wreck isn't one of your OEM brands - a Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Mitsubishi, Lincoln or Ford vehicle?
That's no problem. We work with local dealerships to get OEM parts ordered where needed. We have a great team of mechanics, painters and body technicians to get your vehicle restored.
